About The Corner: Our goal is to prepare foods as close to their original form as possible from local, carefully tended sources. This means meat that isn’t pumped with antibiotics and hormones, vegetables that aren’t coated in a thick film of pesticide, and fish that isn’t from a diseased, over-used stock. It requires a lot of time figuring out how and where an item is produced, and then negotiating how to get it from there to New York City. Even with the prevalence of farmer’s markets, you would have to be certifiably insane to go through the trouble on a daily basis.
Luckily, our executive chef is exactly that crazy. Committed to the fresh tastiness of local food, he scanned all farmers in a two state radius, and lo, he found Sid Wainer and Sons, the only HACCP certified produce company and farming co-op in the United States and located just north of here in Jansal Valley, MA.
Then he searched for an equally committed fish provider and is now working with Wild Edibles which, in addition to having a partnership with the Blue Ocean Institute, was voted by Zagat as the top rated NY seafood market 8 years running.
Our chickens and our eggs both come from organic, cage-free sources, making for healthier animals and happier humans.
And several months ago, he began buying steaks from Brandt Farms, a beef producer known for it's hormone and antibiotic-free animals, sustainable farming practices, and transparency.
We didn’t want to make a big deal out of all of this because we didn’t want you to think we’d turned flower child on you. We’re too cool for that. But no one’s too cool to eat well.
